Self service gateway for internal teams
Requests resolved in hours, not days
The problem
Every internal team that needed access to a shared platform had to file a ticket and wait for a person to manually approve it. The queue backed up during busy weeks, and requesters had no visibility into where their ticket stood.
The approach
Instead of adding more people to triage the queue, the team mapped every request type to a policy that could be checked automatically. Requests that matched a known safe pattern were approved instantly. Anything unusual still routed to a human, but the volume dropped enough that reviewers could actually keep up.
What changed
- Most requests now resolve without a human in the loop.
- The people still reviewing requests spend their time on the ones that actually need judgment.
- Requesters can see status in real time instead of asking in a chat channel.
The reusable idea
Before adding capacity to a queue, check whether most of what is in it is actually routine. A queue full of low judgment decisions is a policy problem, not a staffing problem.
